Don’t Pay For Cheap SEO. It Just Doesn’t Work! 🙂

About Affordable SEO and Cheap SEO

In the most competitive online sectors, a small budget for SEO may get you nowhere so, in those circumstances, it may be better not to start a campaign if your budget is not sufficient to sustain the campaign long enough for it to be profitable for you.
However, there are cases (see real life example in the graph below) where businesses are well established in a less competitive local niche that are excellent candidates for affordable SEO services. If there are favourable circumstances pertaining to the website, domain, business and competition, then sometimes exceptional results can be achieved with the right skills. The suitability of candidates for affordable SEO services is likely to depend on a whole variety of factors such as average sale value, characteristics of the website, competition and so on.
Please click on the image below for a full size version of an actual graph exported from Google Analytics. This example is the result we achieved for a sole trader with just a few days’ effort. The much higher level of visits generated in the Autumn of 2011 is likely to continue for years to come – even if no further work is done.

An experienced SEO consultant can evaluate prospects like these and sometimes spot potential that can be released with a modest effort and in acceptably short timescales to keep risks for the client to a bare minimum.
If a website has generated next to no visitors from search engines, then a few days’ work may generate a sufficiently high number of visitors to justify a modest investment in SEO. If the visitor count can be raised from 0 to 20 per day, relatively easily, then one can weigh up the likely value of those visitors over the coming years against the modest cost of affordable SEO. Over a 5 year period, 20 visits per day translates into 36,500 visits. If only 1 in every 100 visitors buys something from you at £500 per sale (or whatever your average sale value is), that’s incremental sales revenue of £182,500 over the 5 year period. If that were your business, would you consider SEO expensive in hindsight?
Cheap SEO Services
There can be a world of difference between the words affordable and cheap. Is cheap SEO worth the money? Are there really cheap SEO bargains to be had or is it the case that “if you pay peanuts, then you get monkeys”? How can some businesses provide cheap SEO services for £50 per month, whilst others charge many thousands of pounds per month? What do you get for your money?
In most cases, cheap SEO means low quality services or even no services at all! You may pay hundreds of pounds per month and get little or nothing in return.
SEO is Not a Commodity
The important thing to realise when comparing prices is that SEO services are not a commodity. When you shop for, say, a Sony laptop you know that wherever you buy it the product will be identical in terms of quality. There may be different features you can opt for but, once you have made your choice, you’ll receive the same product wherever you buy it. The only significant way retailers can differentiate their offering is price. With SEO, what you’ll get from every provider will differ from every other provider to some extent. Different providers will have different resources, different levels of expertise, different specialties etc.
Comparing SEO Quotes and Prices
Therefore, if your only criterion for selecting an SEO service provider is to ring round for quotes and pick the cheapest, then you are very likely to be making an ill-informed decision. That is not to say that price might not have to be your most important criterion, especially if you are on a tight budget, but it should never be the only criterion. To select the right SEO agency for your business, you may need to do a little legwork. The cheapest service may look attractive but may end up proving to be a false economy.
Cheap SEO Packages
Many SEO companies that offer cheap SEO packages will provide little in return. The most likely reason they are the cheapest is because their service is so poor that the only way they can win any business is by under-cutting their more capable competitors. If their charges are so low for them to be of no consequence to their clients, then the expectation from their clients about what they will get for their money may also be very low and the service provider may be able to get away with it for long enough to make it worthwhile.
Our aim is to provide high quality services at competitive prices and bring SEO expertise within reach for the smallest of businesses.
